My Current Read: Making Housing Happen- part 1

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

The first of many entries on some random notes taken from "Making Housing Happen: Faith-based Affordable Housing Models"

Dr John Perkins, an African American born and raised landless and poor in Mississippi, loves to say the following:
"Give a person a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a person to fish and he eats for a lifetime. That's a lie! The real issue is: Who owns the pond?"

Are people poor because its their fault? Or is society at fault?
The Bible teaches both:
“Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth” (Prov 10: 4)
“A poor person’s farm may produce much food, but injustice sweeps it all away” (Prov 13:23)
Primary cause of poverty: Oppression
Hebrew root of the word Oppression means “the cruel and unjust exercise of power and authority, usually through the control of social institutions”.
